The Rye boys soccer team continued its winning ways with a resounding 4-1 victory Monday over Pelham in Mount Vernon. This was the Garnets’ eighth win in as many games this season.

Junior striker Felix Wismer had two goals and one assist. Senior Kasen Scarperi and sophomore Connor Dehmer each had one goal and one assist.

And Rye junior goalie Will Alexander had one assist – that’s not a typo. He really did.

“We scored two beautiful first-half goals,” said coach Jared Small. “But we struggled a bit defensively at the end of the first half. Inserting Silas Kavanagh in the 16th minute helped us add some much-needed grit.”

Rye’s second half was significantly more satisfying, as they seemed to find more joy on the ball.

“We made a tactical change midway through and put junior Cole Furber back in the lineup at center back,” Small said.

Furber had missed the previous four halves with a mild injury. The decision paid off.

“From the time Cole entered to the end of the game, we really improved our mentality,” Small said. “All four goals – as well as the long punt and assist from Alexander – were brilliant.”

The Garnets will stay on the road for games Wednesday at Somers and Friday at Edgemont.
