The Rye High School boys soccer team is looking to make improvements throughout the season, which coach Jared Small hopes will land them in a good spot during the postseason this year.
“In recent years we’ve done a nice job of starting solid and then building momentum throughout the regular season and making strong playoff runs,” he told The Record. “We’d love to continue that trend.”
The Rye High School boys soccer team is coming back from an end-of-season loss to Byram Hills High School in the playoffs last year. This year, the group’s biggest competition is likely to be Byram Hills and Eastchester, as well as Harrison and Pelham. Small said “every league match will be a battle for all teams.”
Senior boys Kaden Zion and Jack Gilroy will wear captain armbands this season, Small said, and other team leaders include Alex van der Voort and Zac Ramsey.
“We’ll have a new starting goalkeeper this fall and I am excited to see how that position shapes up,” Small added. “We also have a number of key players in the senior class and some of the younger classes as well, so I look forward to talking about them as the season gets rolling.”
The boys started practice on Aug. 26, and will host their first opponents, Somers High School, on Sept. 9.
