Rye Country Day sophomores Payton Richardson and Marshall Brown both medaled at the New York state track and field championships on June 14 at Webster Schroeder High School.
Brown set a state record for sophomores, finishing the 1,600 in 4:10.16 to claim the Class C state title and finish fifth in the state overall.
Richardson finished the 200 in 24.41 seconds to win the Class C state title, then finished fourth in the state overall with a time of 24.48 seconds.
Rye Neck junior Nina Vienne finished 13th in the state in the 100 with a time of 13 seconds flat, after finishing first in the event at the Section 1 state qualifying meet. The Panthers had two of the three fastest girls in Section 1 Class C, as sophomore Dhara Eboli finished third at the qualifier with a season-best time of 13.07 seconds.
Rye’s top finisher at the section qualifying meet was junior Jill DeSanto, who finished third in the 400, with a personal-best time of 58.88. She also took fourth in the 100, just ahead of sophomore teammate Katie Hillis, who was fifth.
Senior Calvin Holler set a personal best in his final high school meet, throwing 121 feet, 7 inches in discus to take fifth in Class B.
Senior Ben Truman, who made previous outdoor and indoor state appearances, finished 10th in the 800 at the state qualifier with a time of 1:58.
