The Rye field hockey team beat Yorktown 4-2 on the road Tuesday to bump its win streak to five and finish the first half of the season with an 8-1 record.
Rye took over quickly with two goals in the first quarter alone, which Perkins credited to the team’s relentlessness.
“We did a great job of scoring quickly in the first quarter,” Perkins said. “We also ended the first quarter by drawing a corner with no time remaining and we ended up scoring on that corner, too.”
The goals were scored by senior forwards Beau Whaling and Issy Mann, junior forward Olivia Prata, and sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Coyne.
Senior goaltender Chloe Holden had nine saves on the day, continuing to be a rock for the Garnets in net.
“Chloe Holden had another strong game and made great saves on penalty corners,” Perkins said.
The Garnets’ coach also highlighted senior defender Thea Fairhurst’s performance against Yorktown, adding that she “helped spark our defense and hustled all over the field.”
Rye will hit the road again this weekend for its next match at 3 p.m. Saturday at John Jay.
