Rye field hockey remains undefeated after a dominant 6-1 win Thursday at Harrison.
Senior forward Beau Whaling and junior forward Olivia Prata each contributed two goals for Rye. Other scores came from sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Coyne and senior forward Issy Mann, who also had two assists. Senior defender Kira Woolsey and senior midfielder Sienna Myers each had an assist.
Although the Garnets allowed their first goal of the season, they remain on a hot streak, outscoring their first three opponents by a combined 21-1 margin.
“I’m really proud of the way that our team has been showing up to each game,” said coach Valerie Perkins. “Of course, every team we play has been very different, but we’re finding different ways to score on offense and be creative to adjust and to make great plays in our attacking zone.”
Senior goaltender Chloe Holden shut the door as usual with four saves against Harrison. A fifth save, and key point of the contest, was actually made by senior defender Alex Dellasalla.
“Holden had an initial save on a shot, but Harrison had a quick rebound and (she) wasn’t able to get there in time,” Perkins said. “(Dellasalla) was standing on the goal line, so she saved a goal for us, which was incredible and really helped us get some more momentum in the second half of the game.”
Perkins said all three victories have been “team wins” because every player has had playing time, highlighting the team’s ability to pick each other up and contribute across the board
“We’ve also had multiple players contribute to scoring and getting assists,” Perkins said. “So, it’s nice that the girls are really working together, being selfless, and being able to finish in those tough spots in front of the goal.”
Aside from points and a winning record, Perkins highlighted what she loves to see from her team on and off the field: energy and effort.
“We’re definitely headed in a good direction,” she said.
Next up for the Garnets is a home game at 7 p.m. Saturday against Mamaroneck.
