For two hours Tuesday night, Rye police will host a free community event at Rye Recreation, part of National Night Out celebrated in communities across the country.
But before the night out, set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 281 Midland Ave., Rye’s police and fire departments put in a full day’s work.
On social media Tuesday afternoon, Rye PD shared a photo of an electrical fire being put out at 2nd Street and Purdy Avenue, asking residents to avoid the area. The photo showed first responders working on a blaze at the intersection on a hot August day.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 70s during the National Night Out. Rye police said the event will feature music, games, prizes, and the annual water balloon fight and dunk tank. Complimentary Longford’s Ice Cream will be available, courtesy of the police department, and other food can be purchased as well.
“It’s a great opportunity to meet members of the Rye Police Department and enjoy an evening with your neighbors,” Rye PD said.
National Night Out will be celebrated at several other Westchester communities and throughout the country. The event, held annually on the first Tuesday of August, intends to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while providing a sense of community.
