2025 was a banner year for the Rye girls basketball team, winning league and section championships in March and making an appearance in the regional final.
Before flipping the calendar to 2026, the Garnets added one more tournament title to their resume. Rye beat Keyser (W.V.) 45-40 on New Year’s Eve in the championship of the KSA Events Holiday Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida.
With three wins in three days, the Garnets (9-0) emerged as champions of a bracket that also included teams from North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, and Florida.
Senior Phoebe Greto scored 55 points in the three games, including 18 in Wednesday morning’s championship, to earn tournament MVP honors. Freshman Charlotte Storz added 14 against Keyser, and junior Frankie Chiaravalle had 10.
In Tuesday’s semifinal against Quaker Valley (Pa.), Rye rallied for a 51-46 win. Greto led all scorers with 20 points, and sophomore Stella Maresca added 18. The Garnets trailed 28-23 at halftime before taking the lead with a 14-8 advantage in the third quarter.
In the opening round Monday against Riverside (Fla.), Rye won 43-33. The Garnets’ leading scorers were Greto (17 points), Storz (11), and Chiaravalle (8).
Rye will be back in action closer to home on Saturday. The team returns to Westchester County Center, where they won the 2025 section championship, for a game at noon against Westlake.
