Rye girls basketball continued its dominance in the second week of the season, picking up two more road wins to start 4-0.

The Garnets were tested for the first time Monday against Fox Lane, making some lineup changes due to illnesses on the team, but prevailed for a 54-49 victory.

“It’s been a great week so far, battling through illness and being without a few players who are home recovering,” said coach Margo Hackett. “We earned a big league win against Fox Lane, led by strong performances from Phoebe Greto, Frankie Chiaravalle, and Stella Maresca.”

Senior forward and captain Greto led the squad with 19 points and 12 rebounds, and junior forward Chiaravalle also had a double-double, with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Maresca put up 10 points and six assists.

Rye followed up the close call with its third double-digit win of the season, beating Horace Greeley 60-32.

Greto (27 points) and Chiaravalle (14) were the high scorers again, and freshman Charlotte Storz, a second-year varsity contributor, added 13.

“We were able to dominate inside, with Frankie and Phoebe creating tough matchup problems in the paint,” Hackett said.

Rye won its first four games by an average margin of 21 points entering the home opener at 7 p.m. Friday against Eastchester (2-7). The Garnets beat the Eagles 56-21 in their season opener, and the rematch will be a weary Eastchester team’s 10th game in 19 days.

Friday is also the second-annual Tiffany O’Toole Memorial Game, honoring the late mother of Rye basketball alumni Thomas (2019) and Teaghan (2020) Flaherty, who passed away in June 2024 after a valiant battle with ovarian cancer.

O’Toole played an instrumental role in helping both the boys and girls basketball teams. A 50/50 raffle at the game will collect donations to ovarian cancer research in Tiffany O’Toole’s name.

Hackett said the team is “excited to open at home Friday night” and “raise money and awareness for ovarian cancer in her honor.”
