Rye's girls golf team celebrates following one of their five-straight wins.

The Rye girls golf team hasn’t lost a competition since falling by four strokes in the season-opener against Scarsdale. The Garnets’ picked up a fifth-straight win Thursday, defeating Edgemont 238-251 at Rye Golf Club.

After beating the Panthers by a single stroke earlier this season, Rye (5-1) erased a nine-stroke deficit in the rematch to complete the season sweep.

“The team is playing well, and everyone is contributing to the success,” said Rye coach Rich Savage. “After a close loss to Scarsdale, we’ve played well. Sometimes it’s the front of the lineup, Myla Bisceglia, and others it’s the back of the lineup helping Rye to the victory.”

In the latest win, senior Matilda Glitterstam led the way with a 47, followed by senior Laeticia Clauss with a 49. Sophomore Anna Bancroft and freshman Leila Kurbusi each carded a 48. All four golfers defeated their respective opponents, helping the team overcome a nine-shot deficit.

RYE SHOOTS 249 TO WIN TRI-MATCH — In what Coach Savage called “one of the most competitive matchups of the season,” Rye won a closely contested three-team competition Monday at Rye Golf Club against Ursuline and the combined team of Byram Hills/Fox Lane.

The back end of Rye’s lineup delivered clutch performances under pressure, helping to edge out both opponents. Bisceglia, the Garnets’ senior captain, shot the low score, and the team’s depth was once again on display, with Claus, Bancroft, Iciar Garate, and Torri Hobbins all proving vital in the victory.

RYE 240, BRONXVILLE 277 — Bisceglia once again carded the low score to earn medalist honors in a comfortable, 37-stroke victory Sunday at the historic Siwanoy Country Club.

She was backed by solid contributions from Bancroft, Clauss, and junior Phoebe Lee, who each posted critical scores. Savage said the key to this win was the team’s sharp short game around the greens.

“With team chemistry building and performances peaking, Rye is positioning itself as a force to watch as the postseason approaches,” he said.
