The Rye girls golf team has all the pieces in place to carry on its tradition of success without missing a beat.
The Garnets return senior captains Myla Bisceglia, Latecia Clauss, and Matilda Gitterstan from a team that won the league title and finished second in the sectional tournament a year ago.
“These experienced leaders, each bringing unique strengths and a collective four years of dedication to the program, will be instrumental in guiding the team,” said coach Rich Savage.
Other key returners include juniors Phoebe Lee and Tori Hobbins, known for their athleticism and composure under pressure; and sophomores Anna Bancroft and Iciar Garate, both integral members of last season’s sectional team.
“The team’s aspirations are high, with a clear focus on defending their league championship title and contending for the sectional championship,” Savage said. “Additionally, the team aims to increase the number of individual qualifiers for both days of the individual sectional tournament, showcasing the depth of their talent.”
Adding to that depth are sophomore newcomer Jessica Lafferty, freshmen Leila Kubursi and Elle Ridley, and eighth-grader Mae Haesslein.
“The influx of new talent has injected a vibrant energy and competitive spirit into the team,” Savage said. “The coaching staff is particularly excited about the potential of our four newcomers, all of whom are expected to contribute significantly.”
The newcomers and veterans are “brimming with anticipation, unified and ready to compete,” Savage said, beginning with matches against Scarsdale and Edgemont.
