Rye girls soccer has proven it can thwart all challengers in New York’s Class A. On Saturday, the Garnets dialed the intensity up a couple extra notches, ousting a top Class AAA opponent on a buzzer-beating score.

Senior Charlotte Keenan’s last-second goal gave Rye a 3-2 win over Shenendehowa in the second and final game of the Hall of Fame tournament in Schenectady, near Albany.

Senior Shira Rand scored unassisted for Rye’s first goal, then Keenan found the back of the net on a free kick.

Just as it appeared the game would end dead-locked at 2-2, junior Hannah Jachman fed an assist to Keenan for the go-ahead score.

The Garnets have another high-profile matchup Wednesday at Albertus Magnus, the third of six straight games away from home to start the season. Rye was the only team to beat Magnus last season, and the Falcons went on to win the Class AA state championship the same day Rye won the Class A crown.
