Rye’s boys and girls golf teams both beat Harrison in the regular season’s final competition to secure league titles.
The girls went on to earn a runner-up finish in the Section 1 championship Monday in LaGrange, falling only to defending New York state champion Scarsdale.
Individually, three Garnets advanced to the next round of competition. Seniors Myla Bisceglia and Matilda Glitterstam, along with standout freshman Leila Kubursi, finished in the top 20 to earn spots in the NYSPHSAA Individual State Qualifier. The next round is scheduled for Wednesday, with a rain date of May 28, at Whippoorwill Club in Armonk.
“Rye went head-to-head with some of the best programs in the section and earned an impressive runner-up finish,” said girls golf coach Rich Savage. “The Rye squad — comprised of Myla Bisceglia, Leila Kubursi, Matilda Glitterstam, Phoebe Lee, and Laeticia Clauss — showed exceptional focus, resilience, and determination throughout the day.”
In the regular season finale on May 13, the Rye girls (10-1) beat Harrison 252-278, with Glitterstam and Clauss shooting the lowest scores. A day earlier, the Garnets clinched the league title with their best score of the year, beating Pelham 223-285, with Bisceglia and Kurbusi pacing Rye.
The Rye boys (12-1-1) shot a season-best 187 to beat Harrison by 15 strokes on May 13. All five Garnets shot in the 30s, led by freshman Ryan Kevorkian’s 36. The boys won seven straight to finish the regular season.
