Thompson, our leading rebounder and 10-point-per-game scorer, as well as Will Tepedino, the heart and soul of our defense.?We will be undersized this year, so will have to make up for it with our depth and ability to be successful in transition.?In addition to our tough League schedule, highlighted by Class A contender Byram Hills, we also face such teams as Spring Valley, Tappan Zee, Horace Greeley, and North Rockland.?Our ability to stop teams in the half court will determine where we end up finishing for the season.?
Opening Game: ?The Garnets host Sleepy Hollow and Pleasantville in a tournament this weekend. Tip-off Friday at 5.
Wrestling
Head Coach: Joel Jenson
Last Year?s Record: Below .500, due to a small roster forced to forfeit at several weights.
Returning Athletes: ?We lost two really great athletes from last year: Chase Bekkerus is now at Brown and Jason Rosenfield is attending Boston College. They were a huge help in and out of the wrestling room. We are returning senior co-captain and All-Section wrestler Tyler Webb. Junior co-captains Joseph Sciulli and Madoc DiGiulio will play a big role.
?Some of the wrestlers to look out for this year are freshmen Jack McRedmond, Ryan Becton, and Conor Galligan, sophomore Kaisei Arai, juniors Tommy DeCaro, Dylan Webb, Peter Patouhas, and Blake Norton, and senior Carlos Rodriguez.?
Sizing up the Season: ?Our goals for this year are to win 10 dual matches and the League title and have five All-League and two All-Section wrestlers. All these goals are attainable. We should be able to fill up all the weight classes this year, which makes a big difference in this sport. We invite the community to come out and support Rye Wrestling at some one of the matches this year.?
Opening Match: Rye hosted the Section 1 Duals Tuesday, losing to Nyack 46-39 and defeating Mount Vernon 48-28. Next tournament is December 14 at Woodlands, 9 a.m.
