Never forget. The city held its annual 9/11 ceremony on Thursday at the Locust Avenue Firehouse — on the 24th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001.

The event included remarks from several dignitaries on hand — Mayor Josh Cohn, state Reps. Steve Otis and Shelley Mayer, and county Legislator Catherine Parker. Robin Latimer performed “God Bless America.”

The somber program also included a moment of silence and the reading of the 16 names of Rye residents and first responders who were killed in the horrific terrorist attack or who have since died of 9/11-related illnesses.

Those whose lives were lost on that day were Thomas Crotty, Benjamin Fisher, Yugi Goya, W. Ward Haynes, Takashi Kinoshita, Gary E. Koecheler, Teddy Maloney, Francis N. McGuinn, Robert McLaughlin Jr., Christopher D. Mello, George W. Morell, Kevin Nolan (who has since died of 9/11-related illnesses), Sean Gordon O’Neill, Thomas A. Palazzo, Michael J. Simon, and Allen V. Upton.
