Rye Marine Police announced Sunday they rescued three people after their boat sank in the waters off Manursing Island.
Alongside the Westchester County Marine Police, Rye crews responded to the area – located offshore east of the Edith G. Read Wildlife Sanctuary – after receiving reports that multiple people were shouting for help.
When they arrived at the scene, police rescued three people in the water and transported them to Playland Park, where they declined medical attention. Their boat had apparently sunk about 45 minutes prior to their rescue, police said.
The incident is the second such rescue Rye Marine Police have made in recent weeks. Last weekend, the department said marine crews successfully rescued eight passengers from a sinking vessel off the Long Island Coast.
