Patricia Vellone, a Rye native and long-time resident passed away on Nov. 6, 2025. She was 90.

Paddy was born on Maple Ave. in Rye. She was one of two children born to immigrant parents, Harry and Mary Brannigan.

Paddy was married for 64 years to Ralph Vellone, who passed away earlier this year. She is survived by her sons, Terrence (Bridget) and Chris (Wendy); and her grandchildren, Dan and Alex.

After marriage and having children, Paddy and Ralph settled in Rye in 1967. Paddy worked at Osborn School for more than 30 years and made many long-lasting friendships.

A lover of travel, Paddy cherished her trips abroad with friends, especially to England and Ireland where her parents were from. She also loved watching her grandsons grow, and later in life, spending time at the Read Wildlife Sanctuary, where she served as a board member.

As the result of being a Brooklyn Dodger fan, Paddy was always a champion for the underdog. She was also a proud union member and served as a union representative. A proud lifelong Democrat, she also served as a district leader.

It did not take much to get Paddy’s Irish up. If she disagreed with you, you knew it.

Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made in Paddy’s name to Friends of Read Wildlife Sanctuary.
