The sun shone on all 98 graduates at Rye Neck High School’s 118th Commencement Ceremony June 20. The Class of 2013 marched to the football stadium as the school band played “Pomp and Circumstance” and parents cheered from the bleachers. Principal Dr. Barbara Ferraro welcomed one and all, while Superintendent Dr. Peter Mustich declared, “You’re on the brink of a new adventure.”
Julia Rubin, who will be attending Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was the class Salutatorian. Valedictorian Ryan Baal, spoke eloquently about taking on new challenges and expanded the “RN” of Rye Neck to mean, “Ready Now.” Cornell-bound in the fall, he noted, “Rye Neck is a part of who we are. What we’ve accomplished here will impact future classes. The experiences we’ve shared as a class will forever be etched in our minds and hearts.”
Keynote speaker Senator George Latimer was occupied in Albany, so Director of Guidance Ann Wallace expressed his regrets and read his remarks. The senator, a Rye resident of almost 30 years, said this day marked a commencement to the many stages of the graduates’ lives and called them all to public service. Congratulations, Class of 2013!
