For the second consecutive year, Rye Neck Middle School was recognized as a Gold Star No Place for Hate School. Sixth-grade school counselor Meegan Lawlor received the Bodini Prize for Diversity at the No Place for Hate Ceremony at the Skirbal Center in New York City on May 21.
For the second consecutive year, Rye Neck Middle School was recognized as a Gold Star No Place for Hate School. Sixth-grade school counselor Meegan Lawlor received the Bodini Prize for Diversity at the No Place for Hate Ceremony at the Skirbal Center in New York City on May 21.
“It’s such an honor and so amazing to be recognized outside the school for all the work the kids, counselors, and teachers have done,” said Lawlor. “Our program is all about inclusivity and making students understand that we are a community together.”
Among some of the projects and activities the students participated in throughout the year are No Name Calling Week and One Book One School, whereby all the students read “Wonder” and discussed issues of acceptance, respect, and tolerance. In addition, each child created a square for a Diversity Quilt.
“The quilt represents the ways that each student brings a part of themselves to our school and how the pieces come together to form our middle school community,” said Lawlor.
