Rye PD Marine Unit Rescues Sailboat in Distress Off Manuring Island

Bay constables were able to locate the sailor near Manuring Island in Rye, and then towed the boat to Port Chester Harbor.

A sailboat found in distress in the waters off of Manuring Island was rescued by Rye police on Thursday evening.

The call came in when a sailor found himself in distress in the choppy waters. Bay constables were able to locate the sailor near Manuring Island in Rye, and then towed the boat to Port Chester Harbor.

He refused medical attention.

Shortly after, Rye PD’s Marine Unit received a report of a missing swimmer in the waters near Playland Cove. They were joined by New Rochelle’s Marine Unit and Rye PD’s patrol, which utilized the department’s drone unit to help search for the missing swimmer.

Police located him on land within the Edith Read Sanctuary. The swimmer also refused medical attention.

The Marine Unit was able to use their new Safe Boat (PB1), and its advanced integrated thermal imaging camera to expand their search radius to find individuals in distress in a quicker fashion.
