Dr. Lynn Josephson, a WESTMED Medical Group breast surgeon, was presented with the Dr. Leonard Finkelstein Patient First Award for 2012. The award is given in memory of Dr. Leonard Finkelstein, a founding and admired member of the-then Westchester Medical Group.
“The Patient First Award is an annual award presented by the WESTMED Board of Directors to the physician who most embodies the ideals of Dr. Finkelstein, a doctor demonstrating the highest level of clinical quality with compassion and selfless devotion to patient care,” said Dr. Jen Johnson, chair of the nominating committee.
Dr. Josephson, who has practiced medicine in the County for 28 years, is described by her colleagues as “thorough, compassionate, nurturing, funny and reassuring all at the same time,” said Dr. Johnson. “She was chosen from a group of 15 worthy nominees.”
One of Dr. Josephson’s patients wrote, “Thank you for helping to make a difficult situation as comforting as possible. Your contagious spirit is just what everyone in my position needs.”
Dr. Josephson grew up in Rye, graduated from Rye High School, and completed her medical degree at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She then finished a surgical residency at Columbia Presbyterian College of Physicians and Surgeons, where she became chief resident only three years after completing medical school.
She came back to live in Rye with her husband Marc, also a Rye native, when she started her surgical practice with Drs. Barry Altman and Lawrence Kadish in White Plains. She has the distinction of being the first female general surgeon in Westchester County. She joined WESTMED in 2010.
Dr. Josephson was joined by her husband, Marc, her daughter Kristin and her son, Kurt to celebrate the special evening.
