A Cold Spring man was arrested in Rye after causing a two-car crash on Playland Access Drive while under the influence of alcohol, according to authorities.
Rye police booked Jonathan Soto, 30, on Feb. 8 for the collision at the intersection of Theodore Fremd Avenue. Officials determined he had 0.13 percent Blood Alcohol Content – 0.05 percent above the New York state legal limit of 0.08 percent.
The accident took place during the snow storm on Saturday, when Soto made a right turn onto Playland Access Drive from Theodore Fremd Avenue, colliding with a vehicle that had stopped at a red light. According to officials, the area is not typically known for frequent crashes.
Police also confirmed the occupant of the other vehicle was unharmed.
The last DWI arrest in Rye occurred in November 2024 when police stopped a woman driving a 2024 Volvo on the wrong side of the road. She refused both a roadside sobriety test and a chemical test at the station. Her court date was set for Jan. 7.
Soto was processed and released on an appearance ticket, requiring him to return to Rye City Court on Feb. 25. After further investigation, police found that Soto has a prior DWI conviction from an arrest by New York State Police in Mamaroneck in 2021.
