Rye police arrested two men on Tuesday for their suspected role in a Greenwich car theft.

Cops booked 19-year-old Muhammad Abdulmalik, of the Bronx, and 20-year-old Yadiel Baez, of Waterbury, Conn., on March 11 after they fled from law enforcement attempting to detain them for vehicle theft, according to the Rye Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the Rye Colony Apartments at 1 Peck Ave. after reports of several males fleeing from an abandoned vehicle. The units were notified that the police department was receiving calls that the males were running through residents’ yards.

The 2025 Nissan Altima displayed the same license plate as a vehicle reported stolen in Greenwich, that local Connecticut police were searching for less than 20 minutes earlier.

An officer attempted to detain Abdulmalik as he was running up Beaty Court toward the wooded area at the dead end, before before he sprinted away toward Thistle Lane. He stopped after a brief foot pursuit and was placed under arrest.

Rye officers arrested Baez nearby with the help of the Port Chester Police Department.

Baez was previously arrested in February 2023 for allegedly operating a drug factory with his father in their Waterbury home, where they illegally possessed 4,000 grams of cocaine and firearm ammunition. He faced multiple charges, including drug manufacturing, cocaine distribution, firearm violations and endangering children, according to Channel 3 Eyewitness News.

Both men were charged with obstruction of governmental administration, or fleeing from law enforcement, which is considered a misdemeanor.

They are due in Rye City Court on March 25.
