Donald J. Demas, of Rye and formerly of Mamaroneck, N.Y., passed away on his 90th birthday, Sept. 6, at The Osborn after a short illness.
Born on Sept. 6, 1935, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was adopted by Perry and Mary Demas. He graduated from Mamaroneck High School as well as Westchester Community College. After that, he graduated in two years from New Rochelle Business School.
He spent nine years in the Naval Reserves and was given a certificate of honorable discharge.
He worked for Russell Burdsall and Ward Bolt Works for five years, where he met the love of his life Theresa Tutolo, who he married in September 1959. He went on to work for the Greenwich Water Co. and retired after 38 years of service.
After retiring, he worked as a crossing guard for the Rye School System for 10 years, both at Midland and the Boston Post Road Booth.
Don was very active with his son’s little league baseball. He coached him for four years and was treasurer for the league as well. He was a devoted Mets fan, never leaving the house without his Mets cap on. Many Rye folks even referred to him as “Mr. Met.”
Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, Theresa (Terri) Demas of Rye; his son, Don, of Cortlandt Manor; his two daughters, Carolyn of Harrison, and Donna of Tarrytown; his four grandchildren, Eric, Roy, Tristan, and Remi; and two great-grandchildren, Vincent and Clarissa.
