Six Rye High School seniors were named Commended Students in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program.
The students are: Olivia Cabrera, Brendan Chapman, Peter Olkhovets, Zachary (Zac) Ramsey, Neila Shaka, and Henry Tighe.
The students earned the distinction on the basis of their scores on the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) taken during their junior year. More than 1.3 million juniors in 21,000 high schools entered the 2025 National Merit Competition; approximately 34,000 students are being recognized as Commended Students.
The students received Rye Recognition of Excellence awards at the Oct. 22 Board of Education meeting.
