My husband David and I first met in 1983 in the Adirondack mountains at a lean-to by a lake. He was about to turn 13, I was 14. We cooked hot dogs over a campfire.
Ten years later, we were reacquainted in our 20s and became close friends, climbing many mountains together along with a tight gang of friends. He had the best sense of humor and always made all of us laugh.
Ten years after that, we began dating. In 2001, he proposed on top of a mountain in the Adirondacks, and in 2002 we got married there.
Now, 22 years later, we bring our three sons up to the Adirondacks every summer. We still eat hot dogs over campfires at that same lean-to, climbing those same mountains with the same group of friends.
The Adirondacks have been good to us!
