In the fall of 2006 Pete and I were introduced by a mutual friend at a darts tournament.
The second thing my friend told me was, “His last name is Laura — crazy, right?!”
Never going to happen, I said. “I’m not going to be Laura Laura.”
Weeks went by, and we would see each other out and chat. With mutual friends, we spent more time together. Three months after the day we met, we had our first date. We joined friends for a New Year’s Eve Party in Brooklyn. At the party, I slipped down a few outdoor steps, completely embarrassing myself in front of everyone. Not a second later, without hesitation, Pete threw himself down right next to me. I had never laughed so hard, and could not believe his kind heart and lack of shame.
It was in the moment I knew in my heart I could overcome the silliness of being Laura Laura.
He was a good man and I was really excited. I was blessed to get to know him. Married almost 14 years now with two adorable kids, I am grateful for embarrassing moments that last a lifetime.
And explaining my name on a daily basis.
– Laura Laura (married to Pete)
