It was a cold January day in 1959 as I was walking through the parking lot at the business of Russel, Birdsall and Ward Company in Port Chester.
It was my first day of work in the office department when I saw a very cute guy approaching me from his car. He said, “Good morning,” and I, being nervous about my first day, said “Hi.”
He worked on a different floor, so I really did not get a chance to find out about him, but his smile left me feeling that I really wanted to get to know him better. To my surprise, he called for a date that weekend. We really connected. He was the perfect person for me.
In fact, we were engaged in May (that same year) and married in September. We were both very happy with each other. Don always pleased me and was always so helpful, even helping me with the dishes.
He still helps me with the chores. I am a lucky lady.
This past September, Don and I celebrated 65 years of wedded bliss.
We had three children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren — God has been very good to us, I’d say.
People often ask “how did you survive 65 years together?” We did have our ups and downs, but one thing I’d have to say is: “At the end of the day, never go to bed mad, and make sure your kisses never end.”
