While my friends were clubbing in my hometown of Barcelona in 1991, they met my husband. Only we didn’t know it then. I was away doing an internship in France, but my friends met Josep and his buddies.
When I came back in September, we thought it would be funny to pretend I was their French cousin and that’s when I met him. He was 23 and I was 21, but I knew he was the one right away, although it took me a few months to convince him.
We dated for six years and, after getting married in Barcelona, we moved to Madrid, where we lived for 12 years. In 2009 we moved to Rye with our kids Alex, 8, and Clara, 6, and I was pregnant with our youngest, Martina.
Fun fact: my last name is “Centeno,” which means “Rye” in English!
