The Rye-Rye Neck-Blind Brook swim and dive team is looking to qualify for the postseason this year, head coach Katie Konopka told The Record.
Specifically, she said she wants as many of her athletes as possible to compete in the Section One Championship and the State Championship meets in Rochester at the end of November.
But Konopka also hopes her kids will set their own personal records.
“The team goal this season is to get as many swimmers and divers as possible to qualify,” she said about the postseason meets.
But on top of that, “our goal is for as many swimmers as possible to swim best times in their respective events and for the divers to reach personal best diving scores during the competition season.”
Konopka said the group has a large number of returners who will be “important to the success of the team.”
Those include seniors Eleonore Delcourt, Charlotte Geary, Rachel Horn, Ayana Ite, Kayla Lombardo, Emily Riley, Charlize Tavitian, and Megan Tiedemann, as well as divers Mia Howson and Jessica Lafferty.
Younger swimmers who will help the team excel will include Sophie Boyle, Katie Chesley, and Grayson Findlay.
Preseason practice started Aug. 26 at Rye Golf Club, and the squad’s first meet is on Sept. 13 at Hommocks Pool in Larchmont against Horace Greeley.
