The Rye/Blind Brook swimming and diving team celebrated their lone senior, Michael Ladyzhensky, before soundly defeating Wappingers Coop, 96-55, on Jan. 24.
The Rye swimming standout received a cookie cake with his name on it, and things only got sweeter from there. Competing in one of his final high school meets, Ladyzhensky swam in all three relay events and finished second in the 200-meter individual medley.
Meanwhile, several other athletes showed the team’s promise for the years ahead. Rye sophomore Kieran Moran won the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke, and Rye eighth-grader Nick Stocks won the 200-meter freestyle. Rye sophomore Finn Hansen won the 1-meter diving event before competing in the League 2 Divisional Diving Championship Meet on Jan. 30, where he took third.
Blind Brook junior George Papaioannou won the 100-meter fly, and Blind Brook sophomore Michael Hamlet won the 500-meter freestyle.
Rye junior Austin Frankel set a personal record in the 200-meter freestyle, and Rye eighth-grader Jackson Rindahl recorded new bests in the 200-meter individual medley and 100-meter backstroke.
Rye junior Henri Von Homeyer, who typically excels in the 50-meter and 100-meter races, went the distance in the meet, swimming his first 500-meter freestyle.
