The city is hosting a blood drive with the New York Blood Center next Wednesday in City Hall.
The July 9 event is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
City officials are urging residents to donate during the ongoing blood emergency to make a difference. Blood supplies remain low in the area, and donations are needed. Despite the Empire State’s nearly 20 million residents, only 2% percent of New Yorkers donate blood, a number that drops even further during summer.
Known as “trauma season,” late spring and summer bring a rise in accidents and emergency room visits, just as donations decline due to travel and school breaks.
Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are allowed if space permits. You can sign up for the blood drive here.
Officials ask that donors remember to eat, drink, and bring your donor ID or ID card with your name and photo.
