Rabbi Robert A. Rothman, who was honored March 12 at Rye Community Synagogue for his 50-year association with the synagogue.
He became the spiritual leader in 1966 and was the driving force of the synagogue for 31 years. During this period he played an active role in community affairs, including spearheading the formation of the Rye Women’s Interfaith Committee, serving at one time as Chaplain of the Rye Police Department, and supporting formation of Rye Manor. On June 30, 1997, Rabbi Rothman retired and became Rabbi Emeritus, continuing to serve in various capacities.
