Samuel G. Anderson IV passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at his home in Plattsburgh, N.Y. The cause of death was complications of heart disease. He was 71.

Born in Port Chester on Oct. 18, 1953, Sam was the son of the late Samuel and Evelyn (Oliver) Anderson, III of Rye. Sam was a graduate of Rye High School, where he was a member of the lacrosse, wrestling, and cross country teams.

He also enjoyed working on cars with friends, an interest he continued throughout his life. Samuel enjoyed music all of his life, even playing tuba for a few years. One of his favorite experiences was attending a Rolling Stones concert for which Tina Turner was the opening act.

Following graduation from high school, Sam attended Clinton Community College in upstate New York.

For many years, Sam was an independent contractor in Rye, doing home renovations and residential landscaping projects. He later relocated to Plattsburgh where he continued his work as a self-employed contractor.

In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling to Vermont and Canada, tinkering on cars, and listening to music (including Dave Mason, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, and Steven Stills).

An avid follower of sports, he often posted on social media about the achievements of his favorite athletes and of the boys’ and girls’ sports teams from Rye High. He often traveled back to Rye and to Virginia to visit family and friends.

Sam is survived by a son, Bryan Samuel Anderson of Plattsburgh: Margret Anderson (Robert McDonald) of Meadowbrook, Pa; and Marion Anderson of Rye.  In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his sister, Annie (George) Davis of Buckingham, Va: and George Anderson of Clinton, Maine.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court St., Plattsburgh, NY.  Memorial services are scheduled for March 14 at Bethel Baptist Church in White Plains.
