There’s a new Shake Shack in town.

The fast-casual restaurant chain specializing in 100 percent grass fed Angus beef burgers recently opened in Port Chester, one of the latest additions to the expanding franchise. The new location joins other Westchester chains — including ones in Yonkers, White Plains, and Hartsdale.

The Port Chester Shake Shack sits at 535 Boston Post Road at the Gateway Shopping Center that also hosts Whole Foods Market, Target, Ulta Beauty, and more. It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The American fast-food chain started as a hot dog cart in Manhattan’s Madison Square Park, according to the company’s website, before rapidly expanding over the last 20 years. There are 54 other Shake Shacks across New York state, the majority of which are in New York City, according to the restaurant’s storefront locator.

Shake Shack sells a variety of burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, and drinks — the menu offers specialty items like the black truffle mushroom burger with melted muenster and cheddar cheese, while others are more traditional like the 100% beef flat-top hot dog.

The restaurant planned its grand opening on Sept. 25, Patch reported. The first 100 customers were set to receive special Shake Shack merchandise, and the franchise pledged $1 from every sandwich sold to the Feeding Westchester foodbank.

Bruce Jackson, the marketing communications official with Feeding Westchester, told The Rye Record on Tuesday that the new Shake Shack donated $1,300 from its 1,300 sandwiches sold on opening day.

“We welcome any and all creative opportunities like what Shake Shack did to help the community and help our cause,” Jackson said. “Everybody wins. We get a good restaurant and we’re helping to feed people.”

He said he can ensure all the money donated to the foodbank will be “put to good use in buying needed food for our neighbors who need help.”

The Record has reached out to Shake Shack and is awaiting response.

The Port Chester opening follows another popular fast-food chain’s expansion into Westchester. This summer, Chick-fil-A announced the opening of two locations on Central Avenue — a drive-thru in Yonkers and a sit-down restaurant in Hartsdale, the second and third locations, respectively, to open in the county.
