Sophomores Lift Rye Swim and Dive to Second Win
The Rye/Blind Brook swimming and diving team edged out Eastchester to win its second meet of the season, 83-80.
Rye’s Kieran Moran won two events, the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke. The sophomore’s time of 56.73 seconds in the backstroke qualified him for a spot in the event at the Sectional Championship meet.
Fellow Rye sophomore Finn Hansen won the 1-meter diving event.
Eastchester juniors Koray Kiyici and Jack Boyer each won four events, but the depth of Rye/Blind Brook’s success was enough to give the team a narrow win and improve to 2-3 on the season.
Blind Brook junior George Papaioannou finished second in four events, while Rye sophomore Filip Glitterstam and Rye eighth-grader Nick Stocks each took second in three separate events.
The swimming and diving team will return to the pool for a meet against New Rochelle and Bronxville at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Rye YMCA Swim Team Routs New Rochelle
The Rye YMCA swim team continued its winning streak with a decisive victory over the New Rochelle YMCA on Jan. 5.
The team’s depth and skill were on full display, and many swimmers delivered personal best times in the meet.
“Our team performed incredibly well,” said Coach Kate Tiedemann. “While our size gave us an advantage, the true victory lies in the personal bests and the hard work our swimmers demonstrated. It’s a testament to their dedication and the supportive environment we foster here at the YMCA.”
So far, 68 of the team’s 145 swimmers have qualified for the YMCA State Championship, which will take place March 21-23 in Webster, N.Y. The team will look to continue building momentum in its next two dual meets, traveling to face Cornerstone YMCA on Sunday, Jan. 12, before hosting the White Plains YWCA on Sunday, Jan. 26.
