Holy Child’s track team placed 10th at the New York State Association of Independent Schools Championship on May 22, and many Gryphon runners had outstanding races.
Sophomore Joshane Wakefield won the 200-meter run with a time of 25.91, qualifying her for Federation Championships this weekend at Middletown High School. The 4×100-meter relay team, comprised of Wakefield, junior Chioma Nwana, and freshmen Kailah Brinson and Arnell Stewart placed second at States, breaking the school record with a time of 51.77 seconds.
Also placing second at States and qualifying for the Federation meet with a time of 10:22.69 was the 4×800-meter relay team of Cameron Kellett, a sophomore, and juniors Maeve McGowan, Tanya Slipsager, and Imani Sherrill.
Gabby Iarocci, a freshman, threw the shot put 23 feet 8.5 inches.
