A Connecticut man is accused of driving drunk with two children in his vehicle after being stopped early Sunday morning on Interstate 95 in Rye, police said.
Leopoldo Lima Flores, 37, of Stamford, Conn., was arrested around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. New York State Police said they stopped a 2026 Honda CR-V for traffic violations and identified the driver as Flores.
During the stop, police saw signs of intoxication and said Flores failed field sobriety tests before later testing positive for alcohol on a preliminary breath test.
Authorities said two children under the age of 16 were inside the vehicle at the time. Flores was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and two counts of aggravated DWI under Leandra’s Law, which applies when children are in the vehicle.
Flores was taken to the State Police barracks in New Rochelle for processing before being released to his wife, who was also in the vehicle. The children were turned over to her care, police said.
Flores was issued traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in Rye City Court on April 24.
