Alison Brett, who graduated from Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich earlier this month, was honored by the American Association of Teachers of French for her academic excellence in the French language.
The award includes a college scholarship. At Sacred Heart, she was enrolled in AP French. As a sophomore, she participated in the school’s international exchange program, and spent three weeks in Nantes.
This fall, Brett will attend the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California.
Augusta “Gus” Pendergast stars in the 6-minute short “Getting Through”, which she also co-wrote. The film is the story of a 17-year-old who turns to music to help cope with her father’s death on September 11th.
The film debuted at the Woodstock Film Festival, the premiere annual event for the Hudson Valley.
Pendergast is a junior at School of the Holy Child.
Rye Country Day School senior Ruben Conn was named a semifinalist in the 2013 National Achievement Scholarship Program, an academic competition that recognizes promising black students throughout the nation.
More than 160,000 high school juniors requested consideration in the program when they took the 2011 PSAT/NMSQT; of those, approximately 1,600 were chosen as semifinalists.
Caitlin Hogan, a senior at School of the Holy Child, was named a National Merit Semifinalist. Chosen on the basis of high scores on the Preliminary SAT, the semifinalists represent less than 1 percent of high school seniors nationwide.
Having entered Holy Child as a fifth grader, Hogan has taken advantage of every opportunity that the school affords. She has honed her skills as an athlete, participated in service trips to New Orleans, and organized the Holy Child team for the annual Polar Plunge in support of the Special Olympics. She is a regular cast member in Holy Child’s Winter Musical, including last year’s “Annie”, a contributor to the school newspaper and literary magazine, and is also involved with the Gryphon Film Festival.
Consistently an Honor Roll student, her current course load includes AP English Literature, American Government and Politics, Advanced Physics, Economics, Advanced Spanish, Modern American Women, Creative Writing, and Religion. She completed five AP courses last year, including AP Calculus BC, and this year is enrolled in both Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations through Holy Child’s consortium membership with the Online School for Girls.
“I have seen Caitlin grow into a thoughtful, confident, engaged, and driven young woman,” said Kim Calhoun, director of the arts and faculty advisor at School of the Holy Child. “I am certain that wherever the road takes her, whatever path she chooses, she will devote her time and energy to something bigger than herself, and make the world a little better than she found it.”
