Hundreds of runners, walkers — and even babies in strollers – took over the streets of Rye for the 36th Annual Rye Derby on Sunday, April 28.

Teams sported matching T-shirts and costumes, including a flutter of butterflies, a swarm of yellow bumblebees, and a group of gon-doliers with giant mustaches.

The event, which attracts world-class athletes, local runners, and families, included a five-mile run, a five-kilometer run/walk, and a one-mile “Fun Run/Walk.” Participants and others also joined for family friendly activities, snacks, and grilled sandwiches at Healthy Kids Day festivities in the Rye Y’s parking lot.

The event raises funds for the Y Cares Financial Assistance Program, which provides subsidies for summer camp, child care, programs, and memberships.
