Sunshine Coffee Roasters has launched a limited edition drink called “Café Disco,” in collaboration with the Rye Arts Center to celebrate their upcoming Studio 51 Spring Benefit.
“It’s giving flavor. It’s giving funk,” read the May 1 Instagram post announcing the drink.
The Café Disco, served either iced (“ice-iced baby”) or hot (“disco inferno”), is an espresso-based drink made with milk, optional vanilla, and raspberry syrup — red for the Rye Arts Center.
This is Sunshine Coffee Roasters’ first collaboration, owner Mariela Iacono told The Record. While the coffeeshop has another location in Larchmont, Café Disco will only be available at its Rye location on 12 Purdy Ave., according to Iacono.
The name of the “creamy,” “berry-bright,” and “totally dance floor-ready” drink is an homage to the “Café Disco” episode of the popular, long-running TV sitcom “The Office.” In the memorable episode, Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell), regional manager of the Scranton branch of the fictional paper company Dunder Mifflin, converts the office into a dance hall called Café Disco so that his employees can blow off steam.
“❤️🙌 just got mine! SO unexpectedly delicious… and groovy 😉” commented one Instagram user.
The online announcement encouraged those who ordered the Café Disco to “snap a vibey pic” and post it on socials, tagging @ryeartscenter and @sunshineroasters and using the hashtag #SippinDisco.
“Every sip supports the arts. Every post keeps the party going,” the post said.
All proceeds will go to the Rye Arts Center’s annual benefit, which raises “critical funds” to support their scholarship and outreach programs and ensures that their “world-class arts education, performing arts events, and gallery offerings stay vibrant and current,” according to the arts center.
But for those eager to try out the new concoction — time is of the essence.
The Café Disco will be phased out after May 15, when the benefit will be held at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester.
