To the Editor:

The Rye District PO/PTO Co-Presidents support Dr. Byrne’s proposed budget for 2024-2025, which requires an override to the property tax cap for the first time in nearly a decade. With increased costs due to inflation, reduction of New York State aid to schools, and rising health insurance costs, to name a few, the District’s increased 2024-2025 budget is necessary to maintain current programs and services at our District. The District’s proposed budget also ensures completion of important capital infrastructure projects. These include essential security upgrades, including the PA lockdown system which provides an additional, essential layer of security for our children and staff, and upgrades to athletic facilities (such as field drainage projects) on the school campus.

We have the highest level of confidence in Dr. Byrne and our Board of Education that they’ve done their job to thoughtfully address each pillar of the school budget, and uphold the operating standards as outlined in the Rye Commitment. An override budget requires a 60 percent supermajority vote by the public to pass. We ask that you please take a moment on May 21st to support your schools by coming out and voting YES to the school budget.

Sharon Mantel, Karyl Thigpen, Ahna King, Cristina Roosevelt Duggan, Valerie Lapham, Laura Fry, Daniela Kehoe, and Caroline Scully

Presidents of the PTO/PO Executive Boards of Osborn, Milton Midland, Rye Middle School and Rye High School
