Leaders of the donor group, Let the Kids Play, made clear in emails that they wanted to assert influence over the city’s Republican party – and the two Republican City Council members -- to win support for artificial turf.
The artificial turf and drainage installation will transform an 82,000-square-foot athletic field on 6.75 acres of city-owned property along Milton Road. It will be the first time that a city-owned field will have artificial turf.
A majority of the Rye City Council signaled their support for a controversial plan to put artificial turf at Nursery Field, after several leaders of a donor group advocating for the project became involved in the local Republican Party.
The litigation potentially throws a wrench into the City Council’s decision-making. The council is planning to vote on Wednesday, April 17, whether to move forward with the turf plan.
