The proposal was put before the Planning Commission a month and a half after the City Council rejected a proposed moratorium on downtown development.
In January, the City Council floated the idea of a temporary moratorium on downtown development, but the idea was scrapped after it generated substantial pushback.
Officials estimate the parking rate increase, which goes into effect in the central business district on March 15, will result in $100,000 in revenue.
The City Council heard arguments from developers and land use attorneys -- who suggested grounds for legally challenging the moratorium proposal.
Rye, and its downtown, may be especially vulnerable to development pressure, because it has not revised its master plan in 40 years.
