Rye High’s boys lacrosse team ended the regular season with a 9-7 win-loss record and a third-place finish among the area’s Class C schools, behind only John Jay and Tappan Zee.
It was a hard-fought victory: Despite jumping out to a 2-0 lead, Rye’s varsity baseball team required extra innings to secure their fifth-straight Section 1 quarterfinals appearance.
Rye dominated the Sailors from the opening whistle and led 8-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Garnets never looked back and won in convincing fashion, 19-5, advancing to the Section 1 Class C semifinals.
The three-sport star was asked to name the strengths she brings to each game. “I suppose I have a unique energy, … a grittiness … that comes out no matter what sport I’m playing,” Vanneck said.
