Finishing strong has been a theme for Rye girls lacrosse so far this season.
While the Garnets (2-0) have led for nearly every minute of both games, it was the final quarter that set them apart in both wins.
In the season-opener, Rye beat Pelham 15-7, scoring the game’s final seven goals to turn a one-point lead into a rout. On Friday, the Garnets won 16-7 at Bronxville, outscoring the Broncos by five in the fourth quarter.
Freshman Dylan Ehrlich made her first start as keeper against Bronxville, recording five saves. Rye scored the game’s first three goals, and maintained the three-point margin after three quarters, leading 9-6. In the final quarter, the Garnets outscored the Broncos 6-1 to pull away once again.
Rye’s next game is 5 p.m. Wednesday against American Heritage, a Florida lacrosse power that won state championships in 2021, 2023, and 2024. This Bronco squad will pose a much tougher test than the one Rye beat on Friday.
Unlike New York schools, which are just a game or two into the 2026 season, American Heritage is already 13-1. Since falling 9-8 on March 16 – their only loss of the season – the Broncos have won three straight, including 20-4 and 15-2 victories last week.
The cross-country matchup will be a good measuring stick for a Garnet team that hopes to reclaim a section title after falling to undefeated Nyack in the Section 1 title game a season ago.
