Dozens of Rye residents, and several residents of neighboring communities, reached out in recent weeks to make sure that this little community newspaper would continue beyond this issue. We are pleased to announce that two Rye individuals, who are intelligent and curious and caring, have come forward and are prepared to take ownership at the end of August.
We hope you all look forward to reading fresh perspectives, different flavors of features and columns, as well as the tried-and-true. We have offered to stay on for the next few months to help with the transition and will contribute to the paper when needed.
The website is in the process of being expanded, a fall issue of Rye Life magazine is being pondered, and editorial excitement abounds.
While everyone is indeed replaceable, it is hard to imagine a paper without several articles from two of our longest-running contributors, Janice Fabry and Mitch Silver. Not only did they make their deadlines, but they continually amazed and delighted us and readers.
Mitch, who wore many hats over the years, as an editor and as a contributing writer covering crime, movies and television, and sports with ease and assurance, is moving to North Carolina to be near family. We will miss his wit, encyclopedic knowledge, and friendship.
Thinking that if we had not asked Janice to pen so many Around Town columns over the years, in addition to the features she had a flair for, she might have postponed her retirement by another decade! But we certainly understand and respect her desire to spend as much time with family as possible.
