The Peningo Club Bistro is Coming to Elm Street

Empty for approximately two years, the property at 22 Elm St. previously housed two restaurants that went out of business: Morgan’s Fish House and Meso Mediterranean Cuisine.

An American bistro-style restaurant to be called The Peningo Club is scheduled to open by the end of this year at 22 Elm St.

The restaurant is to be run by Alban Gashi, the son of Sergio Gashi, who operates three restaurants in Westchester, including Sergio’s Saw Pit in Port Chester. The senior Gashi will not be involved in running this restaurant, according to his son.

Alban Gashi said he was optimistic about the opportunity to add a new restaurant to Rye’s thriving downtown. Empty for approximately two years, the property at 22 Elm St. previously housed two restaurants that went out of business: Morgan’s Fish House, which had a 12-year run ending in 2019, and Meso Mediterranean Cuisine, which opened in December 2020 and lasted for three years.

Gashi said he and his partners came up with the name Peningo Club after learning about Peningo’s historical roots in Rye. It refers to the name of a tract of land from the Long Island Sound to Blind Brook that three Greenwich residents bought in 1660 from the Siwanoy Native American tribe.
