At its 85th Anniversary Charter Dinner, the Rye City Lions Club honored Joe Murphy for his longtime service to the Rye community.
At its 85th Anniversary Charter Dinner, the Rye City Lions Club honored Joe Murphy for his longtime service to the Rye community. At the event, held at American Yacht Club February 15, Mr. Murphy was presented with the 2012 James A. and Marian M. Shea Community Service Award.
Mr. Murphy has served as a volunteer in Rye for many organizations over the years, including the Conservation Commission, the Nature Center, the Board of Education. He is a past Commander of American Legion Post 128.
Among his most important work has been on behalf of Rye’s senior citizens. With Marian Shea, he co-founded the Rye Senior Advocacy Committee, which was established by the City Council in 2002 to offer information, advice, and links to services for Rye seniors.
