On Friday the 13th, a lot of good things can happen too, as was the case last month for the Rye City Lions Club. At their annual dinner — which was sold out — they presented the 2015 James A. and Marion M. Shea Community Service Award to Phil Gormley for his steadfast support of charities which raise money to fund research on ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Phil’s friends, family, and fans were on hand to celebrate at American Yacht Club. Father Joseph Lim of Resurrection Church delivered a fine invocation. State Senator George Latimer and Assemblyman Steve Otis read out rousing proclamations, highlighting the honoree’s dedication and selfless service.
