“We’ve had a good run,” said longtime member Dinah Howland, who hosted a potluck Grand Finale luncheon at her Rye home June 28. Speaking for the hundreds of volunteers recent and past, she said, “We have so much to celebrate — years of friendship, not to mention the tons of home furnishings that cycled through Twig Antiques over many decades.”
Over great food, members laughed and reminisced. They even took a moment to proudly reflect on the fact that after the closing of United Hospital, to which all their early volunteer efforts were dedicated, they reincorporated in 2005 and in the last ten years have donated $1 million to local health-related charities.
Scott Moore, Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS Operations Director, was not the only guest at the luncheon for whom the farewell was bittersweet. There were cheers and tears all around.
